Canadian Coast Guard Solar

Project Location
Sidney, BC
Project Type
200 kW Carport

Key Features

The Customer:

The Institute of Ocean Sciences is one of a network of nine major scientific facilities across Canada operated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Located in Sidney, the Institute is home to scientists, technicians, support staff and ships’ crews whose common interests are Canada’s coastal waters.

The Solution:

Charge Solar designed both a flat roof ballasted, and a freestanding carport solar pv system. Mechanically, this required a racking system evaluation based on roof material and capacity for the flat roof, and determination of the suitable anchoring system for connecting to the carport structure. Electrically, both generation locations had to be compatible with the power system supplying the properties various buildings. This required specifying array wiring, transformer sizing and coordinating feeds to various substations.
